sarah2015aSarah completed the new BA in NZSL-English Interpreting at AUT in December 2013. Previously, she was in the NZ Territorial Army for 6 years as a medic and also completed a BA in Sport & Recreation, majoring in Outdoor Education in 2008 (AUT). Since acquiring work in 2007 as an Outdoor facilitator at AdventureWorks NZ Ltd, a challenge course specializing in personal and social development of client groups (similar to Outward Bound), Sarah has worked with Kelston Deaf Education Centre transition students on an annual basis. This was where she first found her passion for NZSL, Deaf culture and the Deaf community. As well as graduating with the BA NZSL-English Interpreting in 2013, she also was successful with her application for the Connect Internship position which ran for a full year in 2014, her first year as a qualified interpreter. Sarah’s areas of interest for future work include sport & recreation, medical and Māori settings. Her long term goal is to become a trilingual interpreter in English, NZSL and Māori.
