Bookings Coordinator (National)

Louise completed the Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting (DipSLI) at AUT in 1999, and has interpreted predominantly in tertiary education.

Accepting a role at AUT as a lecturer in 2007, over the course of four years Louise taught a variety of papers on the DipSLI programme while working in both tertiary and community settings.

Returning to the classroom as a part time student in 2010, Louise completed the Post Graduate Diploma in Auslan/English Interpreting (NZSL) via Victoria University, Wellington and Macquarie University, Sydney.
As part of her commitment to the profession Louise has spent many years volunteering her time for SLIANZ, as committee member initially (2000-2003) and later completing a number of terms as Treasurer (2004-07, 2017-19) with one year as Co-President from mid 2013.

During her second term, she worked on a collaborative research project undertaking a survey of the SLIANZ membership entitled: “A snapshot of the NZSL interpreting profession 01 April 2004 – 31 March 2005”, June 2006.

2015 saw a brief return to teaching part time on the BA NZSL – English Interpreting programme at AUT.

Spending two years travelling New Zealand and recently resettling in Auckland helped cement the desire to work towards improved provision of interpreters in the regions, and Louise now works full-time as National Bookings Coordinator for Connect, balancing it with the occasional community interpreting job and some part time study.
